FIRST COMMERCE OPENS FINANCIAL CENTER IN THOMASVILLE TO SERVE THOMAS COUNTY MARKET
THOMASVILLE, GA – First Commerce Credit Union opened its doors to a new financial center in Gateway Plaza, 15131 US HWY S. 19, in Thomasville, GA. Headquartered in Tallahassee, FL for 72 years, First Commerce Credit Union’s volunteer Board of Directors and Executive Team had its eyes on expansion with a vision to provide even more residents and small businesses in South Georgia access to the not-for-profit credit union’s products, services and programs. Thanks to an expanded charter, everyone who lives and works in Thomas County can join the credit union.
“Our credit union structure is one that consistently allows for low loan rates, high savings rates, fewer fees and a culture of member service and financial advocacy” said Cecilia Homison, CEO of First Commerce. “We are firmly committed to offering the people of the region an alternative to large, for-profit banks beholden to Wall Street.”
The credit union employs around 120 professionals and currently serves 39,000 members, overseeing more than $360 million in assets with eight full-service financial centers, six in Tallahassee, one location in Marianna, FL and now Thomasville, GA. Financially strong and stable, the credit union has an IDC Financial Publishing ranking of superior, the highest category available to financial institutions.
“Our commitment to the North Florida/South Georgia area community, residents, and business leaders is unwavering. We’re looking to do our part to help fuel a healthy economy and will apply the same community and leadership philosophy in Thomas County as we do in Tallahassee,” said Dr. Jerry Osteryoung, Chairman of the Board, for First Commerce.
First Commerce is a full-service financial institution offering a complete line of business and consumer products and services, including online and mobile technologies, checking, lending, savings and financial guidance. Additionally, Six Pillars Financial Advisors, the credit union’s wholly-owned subsidiary offering investment, insurance and financial planning, rounds out the suite of services. The credit union is federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration and an Equal Housing Lender.
“On behalf of the Thomasville-Thomas County Chamber of Commerce I am pleased to welcome First Commerce Credit Union to the community. With a history of over seventy years of strong financial success and a dedicated professional staff we believe that they will be a great asset to the community,” said Don Sims, President Thomasville-Thomas County Chamber of Commerce.
Leading the new First Commerce financial center are: Ken O’Neal, Financial Center Manager, Jennifer Christie, Financial Services Officer and Stacy Byrd, Financial Services Officer.
“At First Commerce we have the latitude to make quick, local decisions about things such as business and personal lending,” said Ken O’Neal, Financial Center Manager. “Our board of directors is made up of unpaid volunteers who aren’t obligated to Wall Street but rather to the people of Florida and Georgia. I’m proud to be a part of bringing this Florida institution to the people of Thomas County.”
