At First Commerce, we believe in #PinkPOWER!

Worldwide, 1 in 8 women and 1 in 1,000 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer – only 5-10% of whom have it in their family history. Knowing so many First Commerce team members, members, and friends have a connection to this cause, we chose to take our annual breast cancer awareness efforts to the next level and empower people to give back by launching the #PinkPOWER initiative to support others in our area who are facing their own battles.

In October, First Commerce Credit Union initially joined forces with Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare Foundation in North Florida to spearhead the #PinkPower #FlamingoChallenge as a fun way to raise awareness and contributions during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We also extended these efforts in South Georgia by partnering with South Georgia Medical Center Foundation to accomplish the same goal. To kick off the challenges, First Commerce challenged at least a dozen businesses, organizations, and people in each region by delivering flocks of plastic flamingos and encouraging them to raise funds to directly support patients at Tallahassee Memorial’s Walker Breast Center in North Florida and SGMC's Pearlman Cancer Center in South Georgia.

Under the #PinkPOWER initiative, a community grand total of more than $50,000 was raised to support breast cancer patients! We believe in investing our dollars into the communities where our team members and their loved ones work, play, and call home! First Commerce believes that together we can, and we will. That’s The Power of First Commerce – and The Power of You!

Participating Organizations and Individuals

First Commerce would like to recognize the many organizations and individuals who made a donation to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare Foundation or SGMC Foundation in support of the #PinkPOWER initiative. All funds raised through this initiative had a direct impact on the patients and programs at Tallahassee Memorial and SGMC Pearlman Cancer Center.

The #PinkPOWER initiative has made some BIG waves in North Florida as a FUNdraising and awareness initiative during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Our initial #PinkPOWER partnership began with TMH Foundation to support breast cancer patients at Tallahassee Memorial’s Walker Breast Center. During the month of October, over 75 organizations and individuals accepted the #FlamingoChallenge. We appreciate their contributions and commitment to making a difference.
