First Commerce Credit Union Awards 2016 MyWay Scholarships to Local Students
First Commerce Credit Union is proud to announce the latest winners in our MyWay Scholarship competition: Spencer Barnes and Chanyce Williams. Barnes is a Ph.D. student in economics at Florida State University and Williams, a Tallahassee native, is a chemistry student at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
Barnes has a passion for financial education. “Wherever an economic Ph.D. leads me, I hope to share the importance of economic theory to people…so that they can see the importance of economic security for themselves, for a business, for a nation, and ultimately, for the world.”
In her essay, Williams wrote, “Although people can assist one another in doing so, everyone’s financial situation is different and financial literacy improves with experience.”
Twice a year, First Commerce awards two $1,000 scholarships to members of our MyWay program who demonstrate excellence in school and beyond, which may be used toward school expenses including tuition, fees, and books. MyWay is First Commerce’s national award-winning program for 18-29 year olds, which includes a free checking account with free tools to help members stay on top of their finances, a nationally recognized automatic savings account that rounds up debit card purchases to the next dollar amount and deposits the difference, as well as a focus on financial education.
